How to Upgrade Corroded BMW M-Sport Wheel Center Caps: A Step-by-Step Guide

If you take pride in driving a BMW, nothing ruins the look of your pristine M-Sport alloy wheels faster than cloudy, white, or corroded BMW wheel center caps. Over time, road salt, moisture, and aggressive wheel cleaners eat away at the factory-installed aluminum emblems. This chemical reaction leaves your wheels looking weathered and neglected.

Why Factory BMW Alloy Wheel Center Caps Corrode

Standard OEM BMW center caps are made from a thin layer of stamped aluminum glued to a plastic base. When stone chips or road debris make microscopic scratches in the clear coat, water and road chemicals seep underneath, triggering rapid galvanic corrosion.

Determining Your BMW Center Cap Fitment Size

Before ordering your replacement graphics, you must identify the exact diameter of your current center caps. BMW has used two primary sizes over the last two decades:

The Classic Size: M-Sport Center Caps 68mm

For the vast majority of BMW models built before 2017 (such as the E46, E90, E60, F30, and F10 generations), the standard wheel opening requires M-Sport center caps in 68mm.

The Modern Size: BMW 56mm Center Caps

If you drive a newer G-series BMW model (built from 2017 onwards, including the G20 3-Series or G30 5-Series), BMW transitioned to a smaller 56mm hub bore diameter.
